One County - One Penny

Dear Palm Beach School District Parents, Colleagues and Community Members,

Enclosed you will find information about an item being presented to voters on the November 8 ballot. The question asks voters to choose yes or no for a one cent penny sales tax to repair, restore or replace the infrastructures for the District, County Government and local Cities.

Our School District will receive half of all funds raised with the penny sales tax. The County Government will receive 30% of the sales tax revenue and local Cities will receive 20% of revenues raised from the penny sales tax.

Our School District capital budget - the budget we use to repair buildings, maintain technology and upgrade our security systems, service vehicles and buses - has been cut $865 million in the past eight years due primarily to the Florida Legislature's 25% reduction to local school board capital taxing authority.

Back to School District website

School starts in less than a month, and now is the time begin preparations for the return to the classroom. The School District of Palm Beach County has created a Back to School website with everything families need to get ready to return to District schools.

The PalmBeachSchools.org/BacktoSchool website is a one-stop-shop with information on finding your school and registering, health requirements and immunizations, applying for free and reduced- priced meals, this year’s student and family handbook, an introduction to our new Regional Superintendents, school times, calendars, helpful videos and back to school news as it’s posted. Bus routes will be posted on August 10.

The Back to School page will be updated daily as more information becomes available, and follow the School District of Palm Beach County on Facebook/pbcsd and Twitter @PBCSD. Back to school photos and comments posted by parents and students using #BTS2016 and #PBCSReady will also appear on the page.
